Texas and Florida to Investigate GoFundMe for Fraud

After GoFundMe announced their intention to steal millions of dollars that was donated to the trucker convoy, Texas and Florida announced that they are going to investigate them for fraud.

Patriotic Texans donated to Canadian truckers’ worthy cause using GoFundMe. This BLM-backing company went woke, froze the funds, & failed to deliver Texans’ money. Today I assembled a team to investigate their potential fraud & deception. Texas donors will get Justice! #GoFundMe

It is a fraud for @gofundme to commandeer $9M in donations sent to support truckers and give it to causes of their own choosing.

I will work with @AGAshleyMoody to investigate these deceptive practices — these donors should be given a refund.

GoFundMe has responded by saying they’d issue automatic refunds instead of making people request a refund.

The update we issued earlier enabled all donors to get a refund and outlined a plan to distribute remaining funds to verified charities selected by the Freedom Convoy organizers. However, due to donor feedback, we are simplifying the process and automatically refunding donations.

That’s quite a reversal, but it might be too late for them. They’re going to have to deal with chargebacks and all sorts of legal action as a result of this. It has also drawn more attention to the trucker convoy resulting in them getting more donations from alternative sources.

It’d be very funny if this ends up destroying the company. It probably won’t, but it will certainly do some damage to their operations. This was not a smart move on their part nor the Canadian government which pressured them to do this. It is only increasing support for the truckers.
