The destruction of the middle-class is not a goal in itself, it is just the inevitable outcome of the economic policies being followed throughout the western world. The middle-class was a natural outcome of post-war economic growth when there were plenty of jobs and the average joe could work 9-5 and pay a mortgage and have a wife raising a family at home. With the off-shoring of productive jobs that generate actual wealth (not service sector jobs that just move money around the economy) and the wholesale importing of cheap labor this golden age came to an abrupt end. Real wages for the majority of people have effectively stagnated. My previous job pays the same today as it did 10 years ago and in that time actual purchasing power has dropped by a quarter. This is why it takes two incomes to pay for what used to take one. There is only so much to go around and poor people don’t have any, so it is inevitable that the middle-class are the ones that lose out.
