Somehow they never seem to explain exactly how diversity contributes to safety, strength or anything else productive and helpful.

Gee, what could possibly go wrong?
Maybe FAA Administrator Whitaker needs to lead by example by having an armed security team made up of people with psychiatric disorders and a blind, deaf and dumb driver for his government car.
