I hate to say this but the Tsarist government made some serious blunders which in turn made it easier for the revolutionaries to take power. The Winter Palace massacre in 1905, the Lena massacre in 1912, the establishment of the Okhrana secret police, Siberian exile for political and intellectual dissidents, labor camps, gendarmes, etc. But the worst error was failing to get Russia out of the Great War when it became clear they couldn’t win. Only the Bolshevik government managed to do that, thanks to the efforts of Trotsky. In fact the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was last month.
