You beat me to it! I was about to remark that the article says (((Gould))) was “assigned” to the SF outfit. He may have been a civil affairs NCO or similar. Probably not even a combat solider.

There’s shit going on with USSA special forces. I suspect a lot of it has to do with special security clearances they have that allow them to operate without scrutiny.
Stuff has come out about them operating as bag men in Africa. They have sloppily murdered their comrades. They appear to be letting people in based on their connections; both crooks & affirmative action low intelligence negros.
